Our age is in danger of becoming-through and through-a human engineered life. Engineering is a great tool, building great science and machines. But men are not machines, to be engineered and optimized. Yet we are sold that message daily. Are your eyes baggy, your lips thin, get surgery and injections-engineer, optimize!  Is your constant striving leaving you anxious and empty, take anti-depressants-engineer, optimize.  Are you getting old?  We’ll slow your aging, and when you are no longer useful we’ll assist your death-engineer, optimize.  Have you died already?  We will save every word and thought you had so you will live on forever.  This over engineering of life is concerning, but worse than the engineering it is the heart of the engineers.  In the AI age, power is being concentrated more than ever in a few elites who will decide what is problematic, inefficient and ugly that needs engineering and optimization.  They will be motivated by serving and protecting power interest not in serving humankind and protecting the least among us. This is life in man’s image, engineering and optimizing a better life than that given by God. Stop. Wake up!  The good life is not engineered and optimized by men, the good life is given by God and cultivated by our relationship with him, our neighbors and all of creation.
