“And call no one your father on earth, for you have one Father—the one in heaven.”—Mt 23:9

This is definitely a saying of Jesus that you will not find on any hallmark Father’s Day cards.  It also might be the last reading you would expect as we celebrate father’s day today, especially from me a priest who was ordained on Father’s Day of 2007.  Should Narek & Nora not call my Father, is that what Jesus is saying?  Should none of you call me Fr. Hovnan, just pastor or reverend?  Well today’s sermon seeks to clarify what Jesus is trying to teach us in saying “And call no one your father on earth, for you have one Father in heaven,” and as often-when we only take things literally we skim the surface of what Jesus is saying spiritually.
